Catalonia, Balearic Islands and Valencia head the list of communities with the greatest rise in the consumer price index (CPI).
In Spain as a whole, prices were up 0.1% from the same month last year, due to the rise in the housing, leisure and culture segments.
In Catalonia, the CPI was up 0.4% in July, giving it among the highest CPI rates of any autonomous community. The others are the Balearic Islands, where prices rose 0.6%, and Valencia, where they were up 0.2%.
In the monthly rate, the segments with a positive impact were leisure and culture (1.9 %) due to the rise in the price of organized tours, hotels, cafés and restaurants (0.6 %) and the increase in the price of hotels and other accommodations and housing (0.3 %), which reflects the rise in electricity prices. However, the INE shows a decrease in gas and heating oil prices.
