From this Monday through Saturday 21 November, Fundació Banc dels Aliments is holding its 12th annual “El Gran Recapte” food drive. 

Given the current situation, in order to ensure the health and safety of volunteers and donors, the food bank is doing a virtual food drive instead of physical collections. Donations can be made from 16 to 21 November using the boxes at participating establishments or you can donate online on the website.

This food drive is the food bank’s biggest event of the year. With the expected donations, the food bank will be able to provide basic foods like milk, oil and tinned food, as well as helping social organisations that have seen an increase in demand for food. So far, demand is already 40% above levels from the same period last year.

So far this year, the Barcelona food bank has given out over 11 million kilograms of food and 275,000 cooked meals, which have reached 160,000 people through 380 organisations.
