Construction to grow in Spain in 2015

The sector will grow 1.8% this year, not far off the European average of 2.1%. In 2016 and 2017, construction activity will speed up, growing at 5%, compared to 2.2% in the EU.

In 2015, construction activity will once again increase (1.8%) and in 2016 and 2017 will consolidate the upward trend, according to the forecast from Euroconstruct, the European network that brings together analysis institutes for the sector in the 19 main countries on the continent.

The new European push in the sector will be largely influenced by renovations, which in Europe currently makes up a full 44% of all activity in the sector. This subsector will grow roughly 5% cumulatively over the coming three years. Residential activities, or home construction, will increase even more over the 2015-2017 period, roughly 10%.

In Spain, home building will grow well above the European average, as of now. In 2014, residential production continued to fall (-6.5%) but the downward trend in new housing has come to an end, giving reason to believe that 2015 will end on a positive note (up 5%), according to Euroconstruct.
