CPI holds steady in March at -0.8%

The Spanish National Institute of Statistics says in announcing preliminary results, “In this behavior the increase in the prices of fuels (gas and diesel oil), lower than that of the previous year, also have an impact. It is also noteworthy the stability in the prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages, in comparison with the fall in prices of 2015.”

Prices have been very low for several months. Specifically, the year-on-year inflation rate has been under 1% for 30 consecutive months and under 2% for 32 months.

In turn, the HICP (which is the indicator used to compare prices to other countries in Europe) remains at -1%, the same as in February.
