2015 INTERIOR DESIGN TRENDS by Rafael del Castillo

Our collaborator and award-winning interior designer Rafael del Castillo tells us about the latest trends in decoration and interior design for 2015.

Rafael visited the fair where the most prestigious interior designers in the world seek inspiration: “Paris Deco Off 2015” held in late January. This edition featured big name brands with impressive mise en scene. Some even set up whole houses as a showcase for their products and styles. All part of their strategy to reach the hearts of wide variety of target audiences.

The biggest trends include “Chic Industrial” and eclectic styles. “Vintage” furniture with different finishes and a mix of textured fabrics.

“All” of the bedrooms featured impressive headboards upholstered with combinations of different textures of fabric. Upholstered sofas, armchairs and chairs with floral patterns and a combination of textures.

“I counted 18 different fabrics combined on one sofa,” said Rafael

Another highlight is the return to “Louis XVI” furniture, very baroque and combined with Nordic-style furniture from the 1960s. This style is also reflected in lighting reminiscent of the 1950-60s in northern Europe. Table lamps in a combination of iron and wood.

“Retro” styles to be up on the latest trends, where technology plays a starring role, especially in lighting, being used to change the ambiance depending on the time of day. Functional home automation that anyone can afford.

We’ve also said “good-bye” to chrome, in favor of bronze and antique metals, both combined with wood. For walls, large-scale geometric wallpapers are gaining ground, combining different textures (with an interesting antique silver). For floors, high 20-25 cm floorboards with a weathered finish throughout the home. It is also worth mentioning the fake-stone “linoleum”.

An edition marked by retro styles, luxury brands and the democratization of certain products.
