The second edition of Inmotecnia RENT, a fair focusing on new technology for the real estate sector, was held in Barcelona on May 23 and 24.
The trade fair, organized by the Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona, API and French company REALNEWTECH, brought together more than 1,300 professionals from the proptech and real estate sector in Barcelona. The event featured 50 technology conferences and more than 60 companies with booths.
After the success of the 2017 edition, Barcelona once again hosted the largest proptech event in southern Europe, following in the footsteps of hugely successful events held in Paris and the United States for years now.
Noteworthy among the news this year is the change in location, given the future outlook for the sector. While the first year of the fair was held at Les Drassanes in Barcelona, this second event preferred a larger location to welcome more visitors and exhibitors.
Likewise, this year participants had the chance to enjoy 2 conference halls with double sessions and talks by specialists in new technology, as well as real estate companies that use this technology in their day-to-day operations.
The Proptech Investors Meeting Bar provided a place to meet for investors and real estate companies interested in acquiring proptech and digital transformation companies. Cutting-edge companies that offer all sorts of services based on new technology like imaging, virtual reality, real estate portals, big data, fintech and management platforms, among others.
Finally, the congress also featured a section exclusively for start-ups, newly created companies with new and innovative products to serve the real estate sector.
The number of technology companies focusing on the real estate sector increased 250% in 2017: from 58 proptech firms in 2017 to 211 in 2018. Portals and marketplaces are the most common type of technology company in this market. Plus, we can say that this growth, according to data from the Spanish National Institute of Statistics (INE), is common throughout the real estate sector: 10,627 new real estate, finance and insurance companies opened their doors in 2017, up 29.70% from the previous year.
